My Bio

Revisiting my personal 'artist statement' --

We evolve.. we're supposed to...some things rework themselves within our outlooks, maybe old ideas we once found that we can't completely shake free from, even decades after-the-fact - like a good strong thread weaving through our life. My relationship with a camera is one of those for me. It grew upon me some 40+ years ago...

At times, it's been a key source of helping pay for a roof, for food, for clothes, and taxes.

At times, it's been a foundation for conveying instruction to others.

At times, it's played the part of 'therapy' as an escape from work and other stresses.

...Still, the damn thing can't be stuffed away for any great length of time, without the wanting to go out, to explore the world, to reach for some manner of "interpreting" what I find visually interesting.

* Experience - photographer, assistant (lighting, sets, camera), instructor (classroom, field, workshops), writer/editor.

* Styles/Genres - portrait (incl musicians/dancers), fashion, figure (studio & location); landscapes, nature, cityscapes; night imagery, b&w infrared (35 mm, 6x6/7 cm, digital); and "expressive interpretations/impressions/abstracts."

Photography remains a strong passion - even with this long tenure. Pushing my own visual creativity into different areas and expanding my own expressiveness further is a strong goal, to keep ME inspired and jazzed about this.

(from an email received late Weds., July 18, read this morning, Thurs., 19th...which had a sunset photo attached) With great sadness and sorrow, I am letting you all know that David Le Beck passed away this morning. With this glorious sunset, drizzling tear drops, and heavenly rays of light, David said his goodbyes. A brilliant man, a great photographer, a kind man, and a dear friend. My name is Orly, I had been David's Friend and colleague for 14 years at UCLA, and he allowed me to log into his email contacts, and write to you, the important people in his life. With teary eyes I am whispering farewell words, remembering his sad and defea

I forgot something from last Friday... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Day_the_Music_Died ...not quite "just another small-plane crash on a cold winter's night" in 1959...this one left an impact beyond cold debris and bodies scattered across the snow...53 years ago.

If you were alive and old enough, and watching TV (especially in America), the date is etched in your memory, for what should have been a wonderful morning celebration gone disastrously wrong... brought back to mind with one word: "Challenger." This is a printable version of space shuttle Challenger's orbiter tribute, or OV-099... Challenger Tribute ...which hangs in Firing Room 4 of the Launch Control Center at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Challenger's accomplishments include the first night launch and first African-American in space, Guion Bluford, on STS-8, the first in-flight capture, repair and redeployment of an orbiting
